I have been fortunate to work as a landscape architect across the world, collaborating with talented teammates and consultants on projects of all types and scales. I was captivated early on by the relationship between building and land, leading to an undergraduate degree in architecture and later a Master’s in landscape architecture.

I draw to understand the essence of a place, communicating its potential while responding to the unique beauty of each site. My approach is open and adaptive, finding solutions that are both contextually appropriate and buildable, with attention to longevity.

I have worked in a multitude of offices, including twenty-five years with DHM Design, where I opened the firm’s first branch office in Carbondale with my wife and partner. As principal-in-charge, I led projects ranging from ranches and riverfronts to parks and residences across the western United States and internationally, mentoring staff, providing strategic vision, and helping grow the office into a thriving team. Each project offered a new challenge and the chance to create something distinctive.

Now, at Carpenter Studio, I continue to explore and shape landscapes connected to their surroundings, applying decades of experience to craft environments that are authentic, integrated, simple, and functional. It is an honor to continue practicing landscape architecture, designing spaces that are both meaningful and enduring.
